ExxonMobil Chemical Awards FEED Contracts, Continues to Progress Study for Possible Second Steam-Cracking Complex at Singapore

Posted on: Tuesday, 20 June 2006, 18:00 CDT

ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Pte Ltd announced today that it has awarded front-end engineering design (FEED) contracts for the derivative units associated with a possible second world-scale steam-cracking complex that would be located at its existing Singapore refining and chemical site.

FEED contracts were awarded to Aker Kvaerner for a polyethylene unit; Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding for polypropylene and specialty elastomers units; and Foster Wheeler and WorleyParsons for an aromatics extraction unit, an oxo alcohol plant expansion and associated plant infrastructure. Mustang Engineering was awarded the contract for process control and instrumentation.

"We continue to make good progress on our detailed study for a possible second steam-cracking train in Singapore. This second steam cracker would add to ExxonMobil's global supply capability and, in particular, serve the growing markets in Asia," said Georges C. Grosliere, project executive. "Our project team is working with contractors to define a competitive world-scale steam cracker and derivative units to be integrated with our existing refinery and chemical plant in Singapore."

Bids have been invited from Shaw Stone & Webster and a Technip/Chiyoda joint-venture for design, engineering, procurement and construction (DEPC) work for the proposed steam cracker.

In 2005, the company awarded a project coordination and services contract to Foster Wheeler and WorleyParsons for work associated with the study.
